  1. Darrius Watkins says:

My problem is I want to be a well rounded beat maker so I’m considering taking online classes. I’m looking for a full time job as well so I don’t know how I would balance the two. Would I need to go school to become a well rounded beat maker?

    1. GratuiTous says:

School would obviously help, break down the basics, and give you some fundamentals, but if you are determined, all you need is determination, and YouTube for tutorials 😉

  2. Michael says:

    Hi Riley,
I must confess that you have really helped a lot with your tutorials. God bless you sir

    Here are my question
    (
1). Can you give an in-depth lesson on how you sequence your percussions. I noticed you just lay them on the step sequencer, and they come out great. What’s the secret sir (does it have something to do with the off/on beat of the drum pattern).
(2). How do you come up with your intresting chord progressions. They are so amazing. I under music Theory but your progressions are just simply but expensive.
(3). Can you elaborate on sound selection in terms of instruments and synths that works well together before mixing.

    Thanks
God bless you richly in wisdom and understanding in Jesus Name. Amen

    1. GratuiTous says:

      Thanks Michael!

I actually just recorded a percussion tutorial the other night ;)! – Will be releasing when I have time to edit and release it! – May make more percussion tutorials if interested, after that release!

I really take my time on chord progressions, cause that’s the base of the track! – If the progression isn’t catchy, you have a lot more work to do with your other loops to carry the weight!

For 3. here’s a tutorial you may like!:

Thanks again Michael, I appreciate your feedback tremendously! 🙂

    Hey 🙂
I really love all your stuff! your tutorials + your productions & albums 🙂
I would be thankful if you would cover following points in your course:

    – Making a beat not boring or too monotonous and how to get ideas for that. This really is my MAIN problem.. I can really get a nice really good quality groove together… but when It comes to the whole track… I really get stuck… I really have problems in making my track sound interesting and not boring.. and I really cant find any solution for it..

    – How to create a song out of a clean original acapella.

    – How to create a mashup out of 2 tracks

    – How to remix any song.

I know that my points are maybe not so easy to cover… but I would really appreciate it if you could cover atleast some of it… and I would also understand if you couldnt.

All the best & THANKS A LOT
    Deep Skyline

    THANKS a lot

    1. GratuiTous says:

Hey Deep! – I sincerely appreciate your requests!

I will definitely keep them in mind. For the time being, have you checked out my “How to Remix a Song” tutorial:

THANKS 🙂 I’ll check out the RMX tutorial 🙂

  4. Sam says:

Let me thank you first for your tutorials and time for putting all these works together for the absolute price of nothing. I really appreciate.

Now, for the free course you’re planning on, I’ much appreciate if some many topics can be considered but for unselfish reasons, I’d just dip my hands on few. Though, you’ve touched on them before but ‘still finding it difficult understanding some of these things. Examples are:

    – Use of Effects during mixing and mastering (esp. Filters, Compressors, etc). How, when and on what should dey be applied?
-EQ. For example, I did some works recently. When I tried mixing and mastering (to master the arts), the parametric EQ’s graphic view showed almost all instuments I used to register at some frequency range. How then do one EQ all these interlapping frequencies and still get a clear, crisp sound? In the end, I felt exausted n just left mixing entirely.
    – How to prepare beats of voicing (on another DAW) and how to EQ the vocals with the already mixed but unmastered beat (if u understand what I mean).

So many things on my mind to ask but let other submit their entries too.

Then, Hardware… As I am, I’m confused a whole lot about what hardware to get. Many products, fewer reviews on most and wldnt want to regret my budget purchase. So, wldnt mind if you could help list and narrow basic things one need (except PC ) to start up good and what additions one may later build to complement.
Then, Music business. Any hint on how to go about commercialising the hubby.

Infact, if you could make a video (wldnt mind in bits to avoid long hours videos but short episodes) of you making a standard beat from scratch, to patterning, mixin and mastering and if possible mixing in vocals with it…

As you can see, my words are overly much cos there are much to ask for. Pardon for being a “glutton”. Willing to learn…

    1. GratuiTous says:

Hey thanks Sam! – This is exactly what I asked for 🙂

Don’t feel you over asked, all your input, questions, and struggles help me tremendously!

Will keep your inquiries in mind!
